How much is it to add square footage to a home? The average range for a home addition is $20,000 – $100,000 in 2021 with most homeowners spending around $55,000 on a 240 sq.ft. addition on the first floor (Fixr.com) The low-end cost is $7,000 for a first-floor bump out, while the highest is around $200,000 for a 1,000 sq. ft. second-floor addition with a roof. In general, expect to pay roughly $200 a square foot for a finished addition. Additions come in all shapes and sizes so it’s a jolly good idea to get several estimates and talk with multiple contractors before taking the plunge. If you’re considering resale value as you plan, let me know. I’d love to share the additions and renovations I see having the greatest impact right here in our area.
